Artist’s Statement

I am a visual artist and painter. My main mediums are oil and acrylic colours combined with dry pigments. I also draw and make collages. Key features in my work include clarity of form and colour, a painterly style and combining techniques. My visual language is mainly non-figurative, expressive and structural.

I approach my art as a process and work serially. My themes and subjects have ranged over the years from the visual depiction of various concepts or philosophical ideas – such as time, voice, existence and humanity – to landscapes and topics in art history. Due to the broadness of the themes I produce large series of artworks, with new
pieces added over a period that may span several years.

In recent years my work has been motivated particularly by the viewpoints of art history and aesthetics. I have been working on the notion of the continuum found in Modernist styles and renewed classical subjects of fine arts. My aim is to augment understanding of art’s multilayeredness by offering the viewer tools for individual interpretations. As an artist I want to surprise, provide visual experiences and challenge conventional patterns of thought.
