Artist’s Statement

When making environmental art Päivi Simola creates surprising and inventive works by combining modern sculpture materials with old archetypes. In her stove works she has creatively used recycled materials and hardware store stuff, like root mat, wire and chain in new contexts combined with national meanings of the old wood burning sauna stoves. The stoves receive completely new dimensions and meanings. In addition Päivi Simola´s works always have a firm basis of historical truth and they have a dramatic message from the past.
