Bio

Johanna Pihlajamaa (born 1973) is a visual artist living in Tampere. She combines woodcuts with other printmaking techniques and drawing.

Pihlajamaa graduated from Imatra Art School in 1997, and completed her BA of fine arts in Tampere Polytechnic University of Applied Sciences in 2003.

She has given solo exhibitions in Finland and participated in several solo and group exhibitions in Finland and abroad.

Pihlajamaa has been active in Rajataide artist's association and organised exhibitions in several countries for the association. She is an honorary member of Rajataide artist's association.

Currently Pihlajamaa was a Chairman of the Board of the Association of Finnish Printmaker's 2010 - 2017, a board member of the Tampere Artist's Association 2010 - 2013 and the Artist's Association of Finland 2012 - 2017.

Johanna Pihlajamaa is also an Art Print Technician in Cooperative Lilith, competent in engraving techniques and Japanese woodblock printing.

Pihlajamaa has worked as an Art Print Technician in Grafiikanpaja Himmelblau in Tampere 1999 - 2011. There she worked with printmakers Outi Heiskanen, Juho Karjalainen, Inari Krohn, Kuutti Lavonen, Ulla Rantanen and Hannu Väisänen, among others. She also worked with painters like Jukka Mäkelä, Marika Mäkelä and Susanne Gottberg and sculptors Kain Tapper and Miina Äkkijyrkkä, helping them preparing printing plates and printer for their print series. Pihlajamaa also worked with international guests Sean Scully, Liliane Tomasko and Mikael Kwium visiting Grafiikanpaja Himmelblau.
