Artist’s Statement

I make observations about working machinery construction and road sites. I explore their dance-like movement as they work. Excavators are tools used to work the soil or dig the ground. Their structure and function are similar to the physiology of humans and many animal species. The limbs poke, scoop and grab.

My artistic work is like conceptual digging. I am interested in colors and the trace of a brush stroke. My works are usual oil and watercolour paintings.

My next solo exhibition will be in August-September 2024 at gallery Huuto III in Helsinki.

I make observations about the construction of construction machinery and road construction sites. My artistic work is conceptual digging, searching for meanings.

Bio

Anna-Leena Vilhunen graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts (now the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of the Arts Helsinki) as a visual artist in 1990, and with a master's degree in 2002. She has also studied at the University of Art and Design (now called Aalto-University). Her latest private exhibitions have been in Näyttelyseinä Taidelainaamo Taikka, Järvenpää (2023), Gallery Napa, Rovaniemi (2022), in Gallery Katariina, Helsinki (2019 and 2022) and in Gallery Aarni, Espoo (2021). Her works are included for example in the State Art Deposit Collection, Helsinki Art Museum and private collections. She is a member of the Finnish Painters’ Union, the Helsinki Artists’ Association and Kuvasto.
