Artist’s Statement

Artist´s statement

My paintings often observe events, perspectives and ideas of everyday life. I build overlapping layered of images, colors, characters and texts. Time and place blur and blend in images, memory and emotion.
In the bases of the paintings I use old and collected material. Ideas of culture, everyday use, becoming worn, and tainted attach to my works thoughts the used textile material.

I consider my paintings as everyday horizon, where experiences, observations and everyday coincidences get pressed and stored. Any point of the horizon is worth looking closer. As an organic continuum it gives the impression of the random life of a person, and on the other hand, her personally oriented observing of the world.

My artistic doctoral theses for University of Art and Design Helsinki was completed in autumn 2010. The dissertation GIVING BIRTH TO A PIECE OF ART; Verbalizing the process of visual art explore the nature of the artistic process and explain the ways on which the work of art is built into its final form.
