Artist’s Statement

The purpose of my work is to depict the experience of the individual person in the chaotic world bordering on insanity. It is an attempt to speak for those who have no voice.

Both my paintings and my photography speak the same visual language: the two different mediums blend into one another in my work.

My aim is to portray the desperation of the human soul - our horror of facing the unknown, our struggle to overcome fear of ridicule and to change the depreciating tone of our inner dialogue.

On the other hand - especially with the paintings - I’ve aimed to depict what is at the root of evil and the consequences of choosing to ignore the humanity of others. At the root of even the deepest injustice on a massive scale lie the individual choices, our choices.

The photographs have been composed of two integral parts of life: the every day routines we all have and on the other hand the presence of death, eternity and memory in our lives.

The protagonists are at the same time real and imagined in the world of scarcity: scarcity of both material and emotional kind. I aim to bring out the absurdity of human life. We are standing with our backs against the abyss. The solution we offer is an endless moulding and manipulation of oneself and the environment. We are trying desperately to control fear - only to find out that the trade off has left us isolated and cut off from life itself. This ruthless moulding has indeed turned us into a grotesque monster consuming everything coming in our way. It is our every day evil.

By manifesting the human condition I believe art can be part of the solution showing a way forward, helping to heal our wounds.
