Artist’s Statement
I am Helsinki-based visual artist and doctoral candidate at The Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts Helsinki, from where I also completed MFA degree 2017. My artistic practice takes place through the means of photography, printed and moving imagery, as well as participatory art. For the past several years, my artistic activities have been oriented towards acts embedded in public settings for individual people, or as workshops and practice demonstrations for larger groups. Central to them has been the consideration of present reality through pictorial illustration. Alongside this, I have participated in exhibitions and events both in Finland and internationally.
My works builds on existing structures, formats and established procedures. They may be identifiable and ordinary, but sometimes they are concealed and harder to discern. Through my work, I explore how the circumstances of the place and situation affect the shape of the piece. What's central to that is asking is what art really is and how is it done? What's possible about art?
