Bio    Artist’s Statement 

Kaija Papu (b. 1980) is a Finnish artists, who has been active in the art field since graduating from Tampere University of Applied Sciences in 2006. Papu has had seven solo exhibitions and several works in group exhibitions and video screenings in Finland and abroad. Papu’s works often criticize the gender hierarchy and the norms of the society with black humor and irony. Techniques of the art pieces vary from huge drawings to small comics, from still photography to moving picture and from sculpture to installations.

At the moment Kaija Papu is working on a soft life-size police car which surface will be hand crocheted. The car is sculped from foam plastic and it is resting on a wooden construction. The surface will be hand crocheted imitating the colors and features of a real Finnish police car.
