Artist’s Statement

Mikko Ijäs creates digital images using touch screen devices like Apple iPhone and the iPad. His work reflects his enthusiastic and insightful approach to his environment, visual culture and life in general. Questions on timeliness of art, evolution of culture and the nature of aesthetics, are typical in Ijäs' art. Ijäs' style is unique and it is emphasized with the digital devices he's using. But at the same time his work seems to echo his admiration towards 20th century masters like: van Gogh, Matisse and Picasso. For Mikko Ijäs reality seems to open limitless visual possibilities which penetrates to the very core of humanity.
