Bio
As an artist, I reflect my own relationship with nature and convey experiences about the environment and the state of humanity. I´m inspired by Finnish mythologies related to nature especially the forest as a mythical, spiritual and protective place. Sculpture figures covered by protective vegetation and fabrics depict humanity and the connection between man and nature. In addition to ceramics, I use concrete, wood and plants in my artworks.
Tiia Matikainen is a sculptor and ceramic artist. She works widely in the field of contemporary art as a creator of sculpture, ceramic art and public art, as an art expert and as an art teacher. Matikainen graduated with a master's degree in art from the University of Art and Design Helsinki (Aalto University) in 2002. She have lived and worked in the art city Mänttä-Vilppula from August 2022.
