Artist’s Statement

My colours are inspired by the surroundings of lake Saimaa, where I grew up and where I still live. Water and sky - the cold light of the North.

In the heart of my art is the thought of what it is to be human, or just contemplation of being. Just like the different shades of the views of Saimaa, life also has these fine layers. These shades that words cannot express I try to reach visually.

The visual expression of my art comprises of environmental elements. Daily I take a walk in the forest and along the shore paths, soaking in all of the seasons, winds, rain, temperatures and various phenomena of the nature. All of these bring their own touch to my art when I work expressively.

My artwork is done by mixing a variety of painting methods, or occasionally with woodblock prints. I usually work on complete series of artworks. What I want to express, ponder or wonder, defines my way of working. Changing my working processes with every single piece is interesting, as is the experimental methods I use alongside with traditional ones.

I have been asked what the round elements hovering in my artwork are, and I have answered that they can be a metaphor to the being of light, glimpses of understanding, energy, thoughts, life itself, yesterday-present-future.
