Artist’s Statement 

Sampsa Sarparanta has been painting for about 20 years and over that period he has held dozens of solo exhibitions and taken part in many group shows. His works are included in many public collections for example in Kiasma -the Finnish national museum of contemporary art. His paintings are often characterized as realistic, strongly political and provocative but there is a totally different side to his art too. It can also be intimate depictions of everyday moments -the beauty and absurdity of human existence. His topics have included the poor of the third world and the laid-off workers of local factories but also sensitive portraits and flash like moments of artists close circle of friends and loved ones. The artist is also known for being a singer/guitarist in his punk band No Shame.
