Artist’s Statement

My paintings and watercolours are abstract and their colors translucent layers of paint with an effect of quiet movement.
I like to think that my way of painting is kind of composing. I am composing with colors instead of notes. When it is really good, the work will ”sing” to my eyes like music would in my ears.

Bio

I am a Finnish painter, born in Seinäjoki, western Finland, where there is mostly flatlands, fields, rivers and a big sky. Traditional art of the area has depicted the dramatic seasonal changes in that landscape. My wish to study art, my love of drawing and painting were natural inclanations from early childhood on.
After graduating from high school and having studied art in the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in the Fall 1969, I transfered to New York, to School of Visual Arts 1970-72. The great city and the minimalist art of that era had a great impact on my studies and painting.

My debut exhibition was in Helsinki, in the renown Gallery Artek 1973. However, I lived and worked in New York for altogether 33 years. I had regular exhibitions in both countries. In 2003 I moved back to Finland,
